Sea Salt Soak

Another surefire way to control athlete’s foot is to soak the feet in a tub containing a mixture of warm water and sea salt and to let it soak for 10 to 20 minutes. Recent studies have shown that sea salt has recuperative properties, preventing inflammation and infection from reoccurring.

Sea salt is the byproduct of the evaporation of seawater. It is comprised mainly of sodium chloride and has traces of potassium, calcium, and iron. It is less processed than regular table salt and retains trace amounts of minerals. Although nutritionally, table salt and sea salt have comparable values, many Wellness experts believe that sea salt is a healthier alternative because it is less processed.

Wellness experts recommend putting a cup of sea salt into a tub of lukewarm water and letting the feet soak. They believe that sea salt increases skin hydration, decreasing the roughness of the scaling and dryness of the skin around the feet. In addition, they attribute the recuperative properties to sea salt’s magnesium content which has been found effective in inhibiting irritation and inflammation. Experts recommend soaking the feet in the solution for at least a week or until symptoms abate.
