Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is made by pressing fresh coconut meat, dried coconut meat, or copra. People can also get oil from the wick and coconut milk. It is an edible oil that, when unrefined, retains a distinctive coconut aroma. The oil contains medium-chain fatty acids, specifically lauric acid, capric acid, and caprylic acid. It is a versatile oil that moisturizes when applied to the skin. Health experts recommend using coconut oil as a topical application for conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, scabby skin, and athlete’s foot.

They recommend using coconut oil in several ways to salve the effects on athlete’s foot. First, they suggest directly rubbing coconut oil on the affected areas of the foot two to three times a day and encasing the feet with clean socks. Other suggestions include mixing coconut oil with tea tree oil or other essential oils at a ratio of 3 parts coconut oil to 1 part essential oil. Once the two oils are correctly mixed, direct application is recommended daily for at least a week or until the skin becomes softer and more hydrated.
