Baking Soda
Baking soda is the common name for sodium bicarbonate, an alkaline white powder noted for its versatility in the kitchen and for medical purposes. According to recent studies, sodium bicarbonate contains compounds that act as an anti-fungal when applied to the skin. It also absorbs malodorous smells and helps prevent infections on the site of a wound because of its antiseptic properties.
People living with mild to acute athlete’s foot can create a homemade foot soak using half a cup of baking soda in a large tub of lukewarm water. They can submerge their feet into the solution for 15 to 20 minutes per day for at least a week or until they see improvement in their feet. After the foot soak, they must dry their feet with a clean towel without rinsing the solution.
Wellness experts also recommend sprinkling baking soda directly on the infected areas and letting the powder sit for 10 to 20 minutes before removing it with a towel. Then, people could rinse the powder or let it stay on for the whole day under clean cotton socks before soaking their feet in lukewarm water afterward.
