The Simple Saline Solution
Most kids with an allergic reaction have difficulty breathing and enjoying the day due to a stuffy nose and irritated eyes, but a simple saline solution can help ease the symptoms. Saline solution can be purchased at the drugstore or made at home (a combination of non-iodized salt and distilled water). Saline solution is used for nasal irrigation and relieves nasal congestion by flushing out the mucus. It’s usually an uncomfortable time for your child, but they’ll be much happier.
While nasal congestion is usually one of the milder symptoms of an allergic reaction, there’s no denying that it can be frustrating, especially for kids. Fortunately, saline solution is easy to obtain/make, and you can quickly alleviate the symptoms through nasal irrigation. That said, kids can often make it worse by rubbing their eyes and adding to the overall irritation. Of course, you can instruct them not to rub their eyes, but chances are they’ll do it anyway.
In such cases, it’s also a good idea to have eye drops handy to help with various allergy symptoms.
