Estrogen is the hormone that is often referred to as the “female” hormone. The hormone that is regarded as the “masculine” hormone is testosterone. Although each hormone is often linked with a different gender, both may be found in men and women. It positively impacts the cognitive, bone, and cardiovascular health of both men and women and the growth and regulation of the female reproductive system.
On average, females have more significant amounts of estrogen, whereas males have higher testosterone levels. Estrogen also has a vital part in the sexual function of males. However, too much estrogen may cause women to have irregular menstrual cycles and may make diseases that already influence reproductive health worse. A wave of hormonal disorders called “estrogen dominance” has affected several women and men.
It is natural for estrogen levels to fluctuate up and down, but it may be problematic if they remain persistently high for a prolonged period. Problems might result from elevated estrogen levels or hormonal imbalance. In females, estrogen dominance occurs when the ratio of estrogen to progesterone is high. A high estrogen level may disrupt reproductive processes, induce unpleasant symptoms, and raise the risk of certain illnesses.
Bloating
When air or gas is trapped in the gastrointestinal (GI) system, it may cause abdominal bloating. The common perception of bloating is a sense of fullness, tightness, or swelling in the abdominal region. One may also have a rigid, painful, and bloated abdomen. Pain, excess gas (flatulence), the need to burp or belch often, and rumbling or gurgling sounds from the stomach are common symptoms of bloating. Bloating in the stomach may make it difficult to move about and do daily tasks and limit social and recreational opportunities—everyone, from adults to kids, experiences abdominal bloating.
When estrogen levels are high and progesterone levels are low, water can stay in the body and cause bloating. In contrast to progesterone, a diuretic, estrogen tends to cause fluid retention. Therefore, bloating may occur if the equilibrium of these hormones is disturbed. The good bacteria in the stomach may be restored with probiotics. According to a meta-analysis, probiotics had a modest impact, with 70% of participants reporting relief from gas and bloating. Greek yogurt and kefir are both excellent sources of probiotics.
