Cut Back on Spicy Foods
One of the most common causes of hiatal hernia is spicy food. Spicy food can irritate the esophagus and cause acid reflux, which can cause the stomach to rise into the chest.
Also, if a person has a hiatal hernia and eats spicy foods regularly, these foods will likely cause heartburn. Heartburn is an uncomfortable feeling in the chest caused when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus due to weakened muscles in the abdominal wall or hiatus (the opening between two parts of the stomach).
If a person frequently experiences heartburn or other digestive issues after eating spicy foods, it may be a good idea to cut back on these foods until they stop causing problems for them.
