Small Fluid-Filled Blisters or Bumps
Small fluid-filled blisters or bumps are the most common sign of herpes. These blisters can be red or white and do not hurt at all. A person might have one or more of these blisters on or around their genitals or anus. They may also appear on other parts of the body, such as the thighs, buttocks, or even the face.
The blisters look like pimples and tend to break open after a few days, leaving a small sore that heals without scarring over two to four weeks. However, if someone touches them accidentally (which is easy since they are tiny), the virus inside them can spread directly through contact with mucous membranes (like those found in the mouth).
The symptoms may not show up for several days or weeks after exposure to the virus. The first outbreak of herpes is usually the worst and can last from two to four weeks.
