Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine native to India. It’s based on the concept that all living beings are composed of five elements (earth, water, fire, air, and space). According to this practice, each person has three doshas (or energies), which are Vata (air), Pitta (bile), and Kapha (phlegm). When these doshas are in balance with each other, the body is healthy. When they’re out of balance, an individual can become ill.

Ayurveda practitioners believe that lifestyle habits can help maintain balance in the doshas. For example, if someone has too much Vata (air) in their system, practitioners may advise them to eat more warm foods and avoid cold drinks. They also believe that an obstruction in the colon causes hernia.

This can happen when there’s too much Vata (air) in the system, resulting from poor eating habits such as eating too quickly or not chewing food well enough. Ayurvedic medicine also includes massage and meditation to help remove toxins from the body and restore balance among all three doshas.
