Abdominal Muscle Strains
Abdominal muscle strains, or pulled stomach muscles, are often injuries due to overuse. It generally happens when the muscles in your stomach area are torn or stretched too far. Athletes like tennis and football players are typically vulnerable to injury, but it can happen to anyone. Often, they can get better with enough rest over time. However, there are also instances where medical conditions like hernia may cause them, and the treatment of the health problem will determine recovery.
Besides physical activities like sports, many things can cause muscle strain in the abdominal area. You can also pull your stomach muscles through accidents like a vehicular wreck, chronic sneezing or coughing, excessive or intense exercising, heavy lifting, and sudden twisting. Some symptoms that may present as a result of straining the abdominal muscles are bruising, muscle spasms, swelling, and pain.
Unless accompanied by a severe medical condition, muscle strains can heal with little more than enough rest. However, there are instances where it’s recommended to reach out to a healthcare provider. For example, more significant damage may be involved if symptoms include difficulty walking. The same goes for severe pain interfering with sleeping or daily activities.
