Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an alternative form of medicine that has roots in China and has been a common practice in many Asian countries for a long time. It involves prickling tissues and skin with needles, primarily to relieve pain and treat various emotional, mental, and physical conditions, including headaches, back pain, and menstrual cramps, and to reduce the impact of symptoms of chronic illnesses.
Based on studies, it may have benefits for those with chronic pain and discomfort from various conditions, from fibromyalgia and respiratory disorders to osteoarthritis. However, there is yet to be any published scientific research that indicates its efficacy in treating hepatitis-related conditions. Although claims exist that it works, they aren’t supported by any studies. Moreover, it may have an undesirable effect that could further create complications and worsen the condition.
It’s also possible for acupuncture to transmit viruses like HCV from one person to another through the needles, thus, making it a safety hazard. Because of this, it isn’t recommended to seek acupuncture treatment without first letting the acupuncturist know of your condition. It’s also sensible to ask your medical provider if taking acupuncture therapy can help ease any of the symptoms you’re feeling.
