Eat a Balanced Diet
The hepatitis virus spreads rapidly and may induce liver damage. With this, persons diagnosed with the disease must maintain a healthy diet by consuming the right foods. Because meals that require the liver to work harder may hinder a patient’s recovery from the condition, the patient’s diet should consist of liver-friendly foods and eliminate meals that demand the liver to work harder.
Whole grains, fruits, and vegetables are examples of foods safe to consume. These meals provide adequate nutrients to sustain the body, which helps the body fight off the virus while also being kind to the liver. Wholesome proteins, including low-fat milk, lean beef, egg whites, and soy, are also included. Consume a significant number of meals high in calories to meet calorie needs.
Avoid the following to prevent additional liver damage – processed foods, which the liver has more difficulty metabolizing, sugars, and foods heavy in saturated and trans fats. In addition to keeping a healthy salt and sodium intake, red meat should be avoided due to the high sodium content it carries.
