Intense Itching, Dry Hair, and Weak Nails
Patients with hepatitis may encounter problems with other body parts, including the skin, hair, and nails. Recent studies show that skin irritation, hair loss, and weak nails are rampant among patients with hepatitis A.
The accumulated toxins in the blood can manifest in the form of rashes, bumps, swelling, and skin discoloration. As a result, patients with hepatitis A may experience itchiness, burning sensations, and discomfort in their hands, feet, and back. In extreme cases, patients may feel like their internal organs are itchy. Some experts also associate skin problems with medications and treatments for hepatitis.
Hepatitis may also affect the hair and nails of a patient. Disruption in the liver’s normal function can trigger the release of collagen used by the liver to heal itself. However, too much collagen can lead to extreme hair loss and make the nails brittle and weak. Unfortunately, these symptoms may stay even after the elimination of HAV.
