High Blood Sugar
HAV or hepatitis A virus damages the liver, which stores glucose. This makes it hard for the body to process blood sugar or glucose, leading to high glucose levels and insulin resistance. There are studies about the potential relationship between HAV and diabetes, and experts believe that untreated hepatitis A may lead to the development of diabetes mellitus. However, mild cases of hepatitis A do not usually lead to diabetes.
Patients with hepatitis A with high glucose levels may feel their hearts racing faster than normal. They may also develop insomnia, sleep apnea, and other sleep-related diseases. In addition, some patients may experience blurred vision, frequent urination, and unintentional weight loss.
Untreated hyperglycemia may lead to serious medical issues. So, patients with hepatitis A are advised to monitor their glucose levels regularly. An extremely high or low blood glucose level should be taken seriously to avoid complications.
