14 Common Signs Of Hep C You Shouldn’t Ignore (List)

Yellow Eyes and Skin

Yellow eyes and skin are a symptom of jaundice, which is caused by damage to the liver in the latter stages of hepatitis C. This occurs when the liver cannot function as it typically does, which results in an accumulation of the yellow bile pigment known as bilirubin in the body. This causes the eyes and skin to become yellowish as bile is a digestive-aiding fluid.

Moreover, the sicca syndrome is one of the extrahepatic symptoms that may accompany hepatitis C. Sjogren’s syndrome, also known as sicca syndrome (SS), is a chronic and slowly progressive condition, characterized by lymphocyte infiltration of the lachrymal and salivary glands. This can also induce yellow and dry eyes.

When jaundice sets in, the whites of the eyes are often the first symptom that becomes noticeable to the affected individual if the bilirubin level is just slightly elevated. The skin will also become yellow when the increase in bilirubin levels is severe.

Other symptoms associated with hepatitis C may include one or more of the following: fatigue, tummy pain, weight loss, feeling sick (vomiting), itching, high temperature (fever), pale stools (feces), and dark urine.
