Obesity
Obesity is a risk factor for hemorrhoids. If a person is overweight or obese, they are more likely to develop chronic hemorrhoids than those with healthy body weight.
Obese people tend to have more extensive and more painful hemorrhoids compared to those who are not obese. This is because the extra fat in the body can put pressure on the veins and cause them to bulge or swell up. As a result, blood circulation becomes more challenging, and stools take longer to pass through the body.
In addition, obese people may also find passing stool difficult because they need more effort when pushing out their stools due to their increased abdominal girth. This leads to further straining and helps worsen existing conditions such as bleeding, itching, and tenderness around the rectal area.
