Sjogren’s Syndrome
Sjogren’s syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the moisture-producing glands in the body. As a result, Sjogren’s syndrome can cause dry eyes and mouth, leading to vision problems and tooth decay. In addition, people with this condition may experience muscle aches or joint pain.
People with Sjogren’s syndrome often experience fatigue, sleep disturbances, and depression. The exact cause of Sjogren’s syndrome has not been identified, but research suggests a genetic component involved in its development.
The syndrome is often diagnosed by specific symptoms, such as dry eyes and mouth. A doctor may also perform a blood test to rule out other conditions that could cause similar symptoms.
