Menopause and Perimenopause
Menopause and perimenopause are times when a person may experience hot flashes. Hot flashes are sudden feelings of intense heat that last for a few minutes, commonly occurring after they have been in the sun or when they are stressed. They can also happen at night.
Hot flashes are more common in women than men but can affect both sexes. In general, symptoms tend to worsen as they go through menopause and are at their peak during years three to five after the periods stop (the average age for this is 51).
A person may have noticed that their body temperature rises during times of stress or exhaustion (like when they are sick or working hard), even if it’s slightly above average. If this happens frequently enough to disrupt their daily life, talk with someone about it. They might be able to help identify what’s causing these changes and provide treatment options, so things improve on their terms.
