Nuts
Certain foods constantly get demonized when it comes to maintaining a healthy diet. Carbs, for example, have been unfairly vilified in recent years. But what about foods that are good for you? Take nuts, for example. These little powerhouses are packed with nutrients and offer countless health benefits.
One study found that people who ate a handful of nuts every day had a significantly lower risk of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) than those who didn’t. Nuts are also high in arginine, an amino acid that has been shown to protect the liver against damage caused by inflammation. Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid, meaning that while our bodies can produce it on their own, sometimes we need to get it from our diet. Nuts are a great source of arginine, making them perfect for maintaining a healthy liver.
There are many ways to incorporate nuts into your daily diet. For example, you can add chopped almonds or walnuts to morning oatmeal or yogurt. Almond or peanut butter are delectable spreads on whole grain toast instead of regular butter. An easy way to use pecans is by adding them with salad toppings, grilled chicken, and dried cranberries.
