Improves Liver Function
Turmeric is receiving more attention from the many compounds that it contains such as antioxidants. Antioxidants help the body remove toxins from its systems, and when your systems are clean, it helps the liver function properly. This is excellent news for people who need to take potent drugs for their illnesses, such as diabetes. But unfortunately, you all know that most prescribed medications contain chemical ingredients, which can hurt the liver over time.
Several studies show that turmeric, specifically curcumin, helps treat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) because it reduces inflammation. When study participants with NAFLD took a placebo or two grams of turmeric daily for eight weeks, those who took turmeric showed a drop in liver enzymes. One of the symptoms of NAFLD is a high level of liver enzymes. Moreover, participants who used turmeric showed lower levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.
Researchers who conducted the study stressed that curcumin from turmeric effectively treats NAFLD rather than preventing the disease from developing. As usual, researchers want to conduct further studies to ascertain curcumin’s efficacy in treating NAFLD.
