Green Tea Can Strengthen Bones
Green tea can help keep bones strong and healthy. Several studies have shown the possible effect of green tea in mitigating bone loss and preventing and/or treating osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a common condition that weakens bones to the point that they become very fragile. This is more rampant among the elderly. The GTP or green tea polyphenols can potentially prevent osteoporosis by improving bone mineral density.
A cross-sectional study in Korea highlighted the significant relationship between regular green tea consumption and osteopenia (loss of bone mineral density) among postmenopausal women. Another research conducted in Hong Kong declared green tea as one of the most effective herbal drinks that improve bone conditions among the elderly.
Unfortunately, some studies show that several compounds found in green tea can interfere with the body’s ability to absorb calcium. So, it is best to leave a reasonable amount of time between eating meals and drinking tea to give your body time to absorb calcium and other nutrients.
