15 Causes & Triggers of Hand Swelling You Shouldn’t Ignore (List)

Tight Clothing and Jewelry

Ironically, one of the treatments for swollen hands (compression bandages) can also potentially lead to swollen hands, depending on the situation. For example, tight clothing follows the same pattern as compression bandages, and it’s usually a good idea to wear tight clothing for the legs and feet to help prevent swelling in the lower body. However, people typically do not wear gloves or tight clothing around their hands. But there are situations where people prefer to wear tight shirts and jackets. So while it isn’t necessarily bad, those with a habit of wearing tight clothing could eventually get swollen hands.

The same goes for jewelry, especially for tight bracelets or rings. You could wear jewelry so tight that it cuts off the blood flow to your hands. The result is a pale (or bluish) skin color and swollen hands/fingers. Keep in mind that your whole body needs to breathe to be able to function correctly. So there’s nothing wrong with wearing looser clothing in the upper body to allow proper blood flow to your arms and hands.
