Improper Towel Drying
It comes naturally to rub the skin and hair with a towel after getting out of the shower. But this rubbing motion weakens the hair at the time when it is most delicate (after being wet). A cotton or terry cloth towel’s rough texture and dryness absorb water and the product, leaving hair follicles open to breakage. Most massage the towel back and forth down the hair shaft, not realizing it may cause breakage and more frizz.
Blot the hair with an absorbent towel rather than wiping water out of it and leaving a towel in the hair as a temporary solution to absorb extra moisture. Dry hair is less likely to break than wet hair. When done correctly, using a towel to dry the hair causes little to no friction, and the hair’s health will benefit from less friction.
The best towel available for drying the hair is the one made with microfiber. Since microfibers are 100 times smaller than human hair, they can pack together a lot of tiny threads, giving the towel a lot of surface area to absorb moisture.
