What Could Trigger Hair Breakage? 12 Possible Causes

Over-brushing

The American Academy of The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that people only brush their hair when necessary to style it. In particular, it should be noted that it is a misconception that people should brush their hair 100 times.

A recent study looked at hair loss and breakage over four weeks and brushing. Each week, the participants brushed their hair at various intervals. Researchers discovered that using fewer brushes after 4 weeks reduced hair loss and hair breakage. In other words, increased brushing is linked to increased hair thinning. Researchers advise brushing the hair twice daily, once in the morning and once at night. It is a method that helps balance the scalp’s natural oil, but a mild brushing should be observed.

Additionally, researchers recommend gentle brushing while the hair is still wet since the hair is in a fragile state. When combing wet hair, only a wet brush or a comb with quite large teeth will do, along with a proper technique in brushing.
