Constipation
Constipation is the infrequent or difficult passage of feces. It can be caused by several factors, including dehydration and excessive use of laxatives.
If a person is experiencing constipation, they should consider changing their diet to see if it makes a difference. Constipation is also one of the most common symptoms associated with gluten intolerance, especially when the undiagnosed celiac disease goes untreated for long periods. Other causes include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and gynecological problems such as endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), or hormonal imbalances like underactive thyroid or menopause.
If a person has constipation, it’s essential to drink plenty of water and eat fiber-rich foods or add apples, pears, berries, and figs to their diet, as well as vegetables like broccoli, spinach, and green beans. They can also try drinking psyllium husks in water or juice for extra fiber.
