Light-Colored Stools
One of the main symptoms of gallstones or cholelithiasis is light-colored stools or the presence of bilirubin in the stool. Gallstones are made up of cholesterol, calcium, and other substances. When they do not pass through the bile ducts, they begin to form in the gallbladder.
When these gallstones do not move on as they should, they can clog up the bile ducts. The result is a yellowish color to the stool. This could be either from fat-soluble bilirubin pigments leaking into the stool from the intestines or from bilirubin leaking out of the gallbladder because it cannot contract completely to squeeze out all its bile. When this happens, there are more solids than liquid in the stool, which causes it to become light in color.
