Fungal Infection: The 12 Best Treatments You Should Know

Selenium Sulfide

Selenium sulfide treats dandruff and a specific scalp infection (seborrheic dermatitis). Tinea versicolor, a condition that results in skin discoloration, is also treated with selenium sulfide. The medication lessens scalp redness, flaking, inflammation, and itching. It is a member of the anti-infective drug class, which functions by reducing the infection-causing yeast’s proliferation.

Follow the manufacturer’s directions or use as prescribed by your doctor for the treatment of scalp dermatitis or dandruff. Massage the medication into the scalp after wetting it. Rinse your hair thoroughly after leaving it on for two to three minutes. Always wash your scalp and hair after each treatment, especially if your hair is bleached, colored, or permed.

For tinea versicolor treatment, selenium sulfide should be applied to the afflicted skin area using a little water to create a lather. Give it ten minutes to dry on the skin. After each application, properly rinse the skin with water. If the medication gets on the genital area or skin folds, properly clean them with water to prevent irritation.
