Terbinafine
Terbinafine is an antifungal drug used to treat ringworm, including athlete’s foot, jock itch, pityriasis versicolor, and fungal nail infections. Terbinafine is most effective against some Candida yeasts and members of the genus Onygenales of fungus. It can either be ingested or administered topically as a cream or ointment.
Jockey’s itch, athlete’s foot, and several types of ringworm are among the superficial skin infections that can be treated topically with Terbinafine. In addition, onychomycosis, a fungal nail infection, is frequently treated with tablets taken orally.
Fungus nail infections that form in the cuticle, deep beneath the nail, can become difficult to treat with medications applied topically. There is a slight chance that the drug could cause hepatoxicity. Patients are informed about this and could have liver function tests for monitoring. Oral administration alternatives have been researched.
Terbinafine has been linked to developing or exacerbating subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus. Anyone with lupus erythematosus must discuss possible risks with their doctor before starting treatment.
