Sexual activity can cause a UTI, and women are prone to contract the infection. Due to the female anatomy, they are more likely to develop a UTI from intercourse. It is simpler for bacteria to enter the bladder since women’s urethras are shorter than men’s.
Additionally, women’s urethra and anus are closer together. This makes it easier for bacteria like E. coli to enter the urethra. It’s crucial to remember that oral sex (not only penetrative) can also cause a UTI. Therefore, oral sex risks introducing bacteria that might cause an infection in the urethra.
Anyone can acquire a UTI from having sex, but women with a history of recurring UTIs or urine anomalies are at a higher risk of developing one. One can take precautions to lessen the chance of developing a UTI after sex, such as urinating before and after intercourse, even though there may not be an efficient approach to prevent one.
