Cream Sauces and Salad Dressings
As far as triggers for acid reflux goes, another group of foods you should avoid includes cream sauces and salad dressings. Salad dressings can be flavorful, but the high acid content of many dressings means you’ll likely trigger GER. At the same time, many salad dressings — similar to cream sauces — are surprisingly high in fat.
That combination of acidity and fat work in tandem with regard to the triggers for acid reflux, which means the symptoms can arise very quickly if you get carried away with cream sauces. As stated above, when certain foods have high fat content, it can result in the food being digested slower.
That said, it’s well worth avoiding these sauces to keep the symptoms of heartburn at bay. It can be so uncomfortable that people are kept up at night, unable to sleep. For those who still want to enjoy their salads, foregoing the dressing is an optimal compromise. That way, you still get all the health benefits without having to worry about acid reflux.
