Doctors and nutritionists caution people about eating milk chocolate. On the other hand, they recommend eating dark chocolate in moderation. Dark chocolate that contains 45 to 69 percent cacao provides nearly 40 percent of a person’s daily iron requirements. Surprisingly, dark chocolate can help reduce stress, reduce the risk of diabetes, and improve heart health. But researchers from Harvard University recommend purchasing dark chocolate with 70 percent cacao content, which will help consumers utilize its full benefits.
Most people typically eat a regular bar of dark chocolate in one sitting. But nutritionists suggest eating only a 3-ounce serving of dark chocolate, which can already provide 7 mg of iron. Conversely, one small bar of dark chocolate can provide between 5.38 mg and 10.12 mg of iron. Dark chocolate is high in calories; thus, you should only consume it occasionally.
Nevertheless, dark chocolate is a good source of flavonoid antioxidants, which may improve mood and cognitive function, boost immunity, and protect nerves.
