Headache
Headaches are a common occurrence for many people. However, headaches can also accompany food poisoning cases because it is connected to fatigue and dehydration. They present as discomfort and pain in the face and head area. Doctors believe that headaches can be primary or secondary. If the headache is secondary, they advise addressing the underlying condition that causes the headache.
The reason for getting headaches in connection to food poisoning still isn’t apparent, but there are some possible explanations. Some research say that headaches are part of the presentation because dehydration directly affects the brain. When the brain becomes dehydrated, it loses fluid and shrinks, signaling the organ to trigger and activate pain chemicals to register headaches.
Gradual rehydration by drinking water or sports drinks to replace the lost electrolytes will help the body regain balance. One can lie down until the headache subsides naturally, or they could take paracetamol, ibuprofen, or other over-the-counter medications suitable for headaches. Individuals must also ease back into eating after the episodic vomiting and diarrhea have subsided to regain strength and prevent the reoccurrence of headaches gradually.
