Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a beam of light to remove unwanted hair. For example, if you’re prone to contracting folliculitis, one way to prevent the condition is to undergo a laser hair removal procedure. This will decrease the chance of folliculitis because the laser will shut down the hair follicle, effectively preventing future hair growth and the associated risk factor.
A trained professional will aim a laser at the target area during a laser hair removal procedure. The hair absorbs the laser and converts it to heat, damaging the tube-shaped sacs in the skin that produce hair. When done correctly, it shuts down the follicle and prevents hair from growing back for a period or permanently. As a result of the procedure, waxing, plucking, and shaving will no longer be an issue, as the skin will become smooth over time. In addition, the absence of hairs protruding from the pores dramatically decreases the risk of bacteria, viruses, or parasites infecting the follicles.
However, doctors also warn that the period directly after the laser hair removal may also be the time when one becomes most prone to folliculitis as the skin is still reeling from the procedure.
