Diabetes
Diabetes refers to a chronic health condition that impacts the ability of your body to transform food into the energy it requires to function. Typically, the body should break food down into glucose before releasing it into the bloodstream. When the blood glucose rises, it signals the pancreas to produce insulin, which essentially acts as the key for letting blood sugar in the body’s cells be used as an energy source. With this condition, the body cannot generate sufficient insulin or use it correctly. If there’s not enough or if cells fail to respond to it, too much blood glucose accumulates in the bloodstream, leading to vision loss, kidney disease, and cardiac disorders.
There currently isn’t a known cure for diabetes. However, healthy lifestyle practices and habits, such as engaging in regular physical activities, eating healthily, and losing weight, can make the condition more manageable than it would have been. It’s also recommended to consult a healthcare specialist to get support and education on diabetes and prescriptions for any medications necessary to curb its effects.
