Appendicitis
The inflammation of the appendix, called appendicitis, may be due to a blockage or infection of the appendage. Generally, inflamed appendicitis causes discomfort that ranges from a dull ache to a stabbing, severe pain in the abdomen’s lower or center right section. However, its exact location varies. Thus, you can feel the pain in your right flank.
The appendix is a small pouch, which many doctors consider as an appendage or extension of the large intestine. Its exact function is not known, and removing it does not do any damage. However, inflammation of the appendix causes severe pain and, in most cases, needs immediate medical attention.
According to doctors, appendicitis is more common among people aged 10 to 30. Moreover, more men are prone to it. The symptoms that occur along with the pain are nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, fever, bloating, fatigue, diarrhea, and gas.
If you feel the symptoms of appendicitis, you should get immediate treatment to prevent serious complications. For example, your appendix might burst and cause sepsis. The doctor may treat the illness with antibiotics. In some cases, surgery to remove your appendix (appendectomy) might be necessary.
