Eases Postpartum Depression
Postpartum depression is a mental condition that may occur after pregnancy, involving persistently low moods. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the person no longer cares. Instead, it’s a disorder that’s often temporary and can be treated. It’s also more common than people realize, with at least one out of nine mothers experiencing it. The symptoms may present within a month or a year of the child’s delivery. New studies also show that even fathers experience it.
Postpartum depression affects people differently. However, some of the symptoms many experiences are sad or low moods, irritability and anxiety, lethargy and fatigue, headaches and stomach pains, feelings of helplessness and worthlessness, low motivation, prolonged or frequent bouts of sobbing, and more. In rare cases, some may have postpartum psychosis, a serious mental problem that requires immediate medical care, as it can cause hallucinations and paranoia.
The treatment for the condition usually involves therapy. In severe cases, medications like antidepressants might be prescribed. Fish oil has also had a surprisingly positive effect in treating and managing the condition and is worth considering. However, make sure you run it with your doctor before taking any supplements.
