Curb Carbohydrates
Research suggests curbing carbohydrates is more effective than cutting down calories for those looking to reduce liver fat quickly. In the study, eighteen participants with fatty liver disorders were assigned to low-calorie and low-carbohydrate diets for fourteen days. The latter restricted their consumption of carbohydrates to no more than twenty grams daily, the equivalent of one banana for the first week. In their last week, they were switched to frozen meals matching their preferences, energy needs, and carbohydrate intake.
After the study, researchers analyzed the participants’ liver fat using advanced imaging technologies and techniques. The results showed that individuals lost the most liver fat on a low-carbohydrate diet. Although the study wasn’t designed to check the most effective diet for weight loss, all participants lost ten pounds on average. However, some doctors noted that the results failed to explain the significant reduction of fat in the liver.
They settled on weight loss as an effective way of reducing liver fat, no matter the mechanism. So it is worth trying, especially for those with the disease. But make sure to talk with a doctor first.
