What Could Cause Fatigue? 15 Possible Triggers (List)

Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is referred to as an “underactive thyroid”. It occurs when the thyroid gland is blocked and unable to produce enough of an essential hormone to meet the body’s needs. When the thyroid doesn’t generate enough essential hormones, the body will be troubled because of the imbalance of the chemical reactions.

Hypothyroidism may be caused by several factors. First is an auto-immune disease, which is a very common cause. It occurs when the antibodies generated by the immune system attack the tissue that blocks the thyroid from making enough hormones. Second, radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that intensifies the radiation energy to kill cancer cells. This method is disastrous because it can damage the cells by tearing down the genetic materials where they grow and work. However, the effectivity may vary depending on which body part is being treated and the amount of radiation used. And thyroid surgery, where the large part of the thyroid gland is removed, has a high probability of infection and, at times, makes breathing difficult because of the bleeding.
