Foreign Objects
Foreign object like dust particles or debris may enter the eyes. A case like this could be because of the penetration of sharp things like glass or metal caused by an explosion, debris from construction or demolition sites, fallen eyelashes, contaminated contact lenses, cosmetics, or dust from a sandstorm. A foreign object inside the eyes damages the cornea, which serves as a protective layer to the eyes. In addition, the longer the tiny particle stays in the eye, the more it scratches and tears soft eye tissues.
If something accidentally enters the eyes, the individual immediately experiences the following symptoms – too much tearing, redness of the infected eye, swelling, excessive blinking, eye soreness, eye pressure, and discomfort.
Removing the excess particles should be done immediately to avoid serious eye problems. Treatments like washing the eyes with clean water, pulling off the foreign object using a clean cotton swab, removing contact lenses (if wearing one), and putting eye drops can greatly help. Remember not to touch the eyes with a dirty hand as it will irritate them.
