Entropion
Entropion is another cause of eye pain opposite to ectropion (turning the eyelids outward). It is a condition where the eyelids are turned inward. Eyelashes and skin may get into the soft and delicate tissue of the eye, resulting in irritation. Eyelids and cornea rub on each of its surfaces, friction takes place, and the eyeball gets damaged. Older adults over 60 are associated with this eye abnormality, like ectropion.
Entropion has similar causes to ectropion, namely, muscle weakness (sagging of skin because of aging), surgeries and scars (damaged skin because of facial trauma and skin deformation due to previous surgeries), inflammation (urged to rub the soft part of the eyes due to irritations and discomforts making the eyelids roll inside), trachoma (a bacterial eye infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis that scars the eyelids), and congenital conditions (disease present from birth).
Surgery is recommend surgery, however, tests and diagnoses should be considered before having surgeries. There are over-the-counter products that can also ease pain and discomfort but they are not a long-term solution. Some healthcare providers also suggest soft contact lenses to lessen the damage to the eyeball due to friction.
