Pain After Ejaculation

In some cases, men with enlarged prostate glands can lead to pain during ejaculation. A new study has found that men with benign prostatic hyperplasia also tend to have more severe lower urinary tract symptoms and greater sexual dysfunction than men who only have benign prostatic hyperplasia.
To ensure proper treatment, a patient experiencing painful ejaculation and suspects an enlarged prostate must undergo a comprehensive prostate exam to determine the presence and severity of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Diagnostic exams will also help rule out other issues, including prostatitis, sexually transmitted infections, and injuries.
The findings suggest that doctors should consider treating both the enlarged prostate and the related symptoms to improve patients’ quality of life. A doctor may recommend sex therapy, pelvic floor exercises, pain medications, and muscle relaxants to ensure superior outcomes, besides drugs to shrink the prostate gland. If pain after ejaculation persists, doctors may order further testing to identify its root cause.
