12 Common Signs Of Early Shingles You Shouldn’t Ignore (List)

Swollen Lymph Nodes

Another early symptom of shingles is swollen lymph nodes. Again, the symptom occurs due to bacterial or viral infection. The lymph nodes or lymph glands are vital in helping the body fight against infections. They are like frontline soldiers that act as filters to trap bacteria, viruses, and other illness-causing elements before they can spread. The swelling of the lymph nodes is often more noticeable in the groin, armpits, under the chin, and the neck. A person will first notice some pain and tenderness in the lymph nodes.

Typically, the swelling will subside with the application of warm compresses. Sometimes a person only needs to allow the swelling to heal on its own. However, the swelling could be a symptom of other illnesses, including shingles. In addition, the person could have an upper respiratory infection if the swelling comes with a fever, sore throat, and runny nose.

The general swelling of the lymph glands throughout the body could be due to an infection, such as mononucleosis, HIV, rheumatoid arthritis, or lupus. But if the nodes are fixed and hard, it can indicate that the individual has lymphoma or cancer.
