A Dental Abscess
Someone with a dental abscess will have pus in their gums or teeth due to infection from various species of bacteria. There are two types of dental abscesses. A periapical abscess occurs at the end of the tooth. On the other hand, a periodontal abscess appears in the gum.
While the individual can feel the pain associated with a dental abscess in the affected tooth, the intensity of the pain and the throbbing feeling can spread to a person’s ear. Therefore, experts recommend that people with dental abscesses visit their dentist immediately so the healthcare provider can drain the pus and remove the abscess.
A person feels pain from the infected tooth in their ear because the facial and neck nerves are close to the inner ear. Impacted molars and tooth cavities can also make a person’s ear ache. The pain can also spread to the jaw and neck.
Dental abscesses need immediate treatment to prevent red and swollen face and gum. They can become sensitive to cold and hot food and drink and have a bad taste in the mouth. Their tooth can become discolored and loose, and they have bad breath.
