Chronic Otitis Media
Also called otitis media, this middle ear infection also causes ear pressure. Moreover, infections in the middle ear are caused by fluid buildup below the eardrum. Middle ear fluid can result in temporary hearing loss.
An ear infection can occur to anyone at any age. However, younger kids (under 3) are more likely to experience them. In addition, otitis media comes in two flavors: acute and chronic.
A virus or bacteria that causes pus to accumulate behind the eardrum is the root cause of acute otitis media. It may result in discomfort, pressure, and occasionally fever. If left untreated, it could result in irreversible hearing loss. It is unusual. In most cases, this infection causes a lot of pain.
There is no infection in chronic otitis media. The fluid that has been trapped behind the eardrum for more than three months is what is causing the middle ear inflammation. It may lead to recurrent infections such as acute otitis media. Compared to acute otitis media, it hurts less. Antibiotics are not used to treat this particular kind of otitis media. Drugs that treat infections do not get rid of middle ear fluid.
