Loss of Appetite
You’d be surprised at how many issues can arise due to pain. A dry socket is one of the more painful conditions to have, and most people with the condition are afraid to get food into the wound and causing more issues. It doesn’t help that hot foods can cause spikes of pain, similar to cold drinks. It sucks the enjoyment out of eating, and many people who suffer from a dry socket don’t have any appetite to eat. Unfortunately, it can start a vicious cycle, as your body needs energy from food and water to deal with your dry socket. It will take even longer to heal a dry socket without eating right and drinking enough water. Even worse, the wound could get infected, leading to more problems.
It’s a good idea to focus on food such as soups to help limit foreign substances that could enter the wound and cause issues. That said, keeping the food at room temperature is best, so your dry socket isn’t irritated. While it might be troublesome at first, it won’t take too long for the most painful symptoms to subside.
