Eyelid Conditions
There are some conditions where the eyelid could dry out due to a lack of moisture. It can either be ectropion, where the eyelids turn outward, or entropion, which is the opposite. Either condition can result in dry eyelids, so it’s a good idea to be aware of your treatment options.
Without treatment, entropion or ectropion can be severe enough that you might suffer from vision loss if you are not careful about treatment. Due to entropion and ectropion affecting the eyelids, you’ll almost always get dry eyelids as part of the condition. In addition, damage to the eyelids can result in infections to the cornea, the dome-like frontal center of the eye. As the infections worsen, they can eventually lead to blindness if left unchecked.
While there are ointments that can help ease the symptoms, it’s not something that will go away with time. Entropion and ectropion will need surgery for the eyes to heal fully and for functionality to return to the eyelids. After surgery, you might also suffer from dry eyelids as they heal, but it’s all part of the recovery process.
