Atopic Dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a lifelong condition that causes itchy, irritated skin flare-ups. Typically, eczema occurs during childhood and lasts for a very long time, though there are also situations where atopic dermatitis starts in adults. As far as the symptoms go, you’ll begin to notice patches of dry, flaky skin appear at random.
They can even appear on your eyelids, which can cause problems such as dry eyelids. That said, dry eyelids aren’t necessarily an issue if you’re careful about treating eczema. In addition, there are conditions of atopic dermatitis where the itchy and flaky skin only occurs in a few areas for a day or two. Afterward, the flare-up ends, and your skin returns to normal. In such cases, there’s no need for treatment other than simple moisturizing.
That said, there are some versions of eczema where the symptoms are a little more severe. The patches of affected skin can grow to the point where it becomes a significant issue for the sufferer. In such cases, having your flare-ups treated is a top priority, as it can ensure your situation improves slowly but surely.
