Anxiety Disorders
Dizziness is one of the common symptoms of anxiety. People who have acute or chronic anxiety often experience feeling dizzy. Acute anxiety is characterized by having a moment of panic that brings a feeling like having a heart attack. Chronic anxiety is when a person has Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
The exact connection between anxiety and dizziness differs among people. Some experience dizziness caused by anxiety attacks, while others have anxiety attacks that lead to feeling dizzy. One of the triggers of anxiety attacks is stressful events, such as facing a challenging emotional situation.
Other anxiety symptoms include blood pressure changes, restlessness, mood swings, trouble concentrating, sleep changes, constant worry, rapid heart rate, irritability, headache, and sweating. Often, anxiety is due to stress hormones (cortisol) in the inner ears’ vestibular system. Those with inner ear conditions are also at risk of anxiety disorder.
