Diverticular Disease
Diverticulitis or diverticular disease is a digestive condition mainly affecting the body’s large intestine. The small pockets that may develop and grow in the intestine’s lining with age are called diverticula. Most people with these bulges typically don’t get symptoms, being aware of them only after being scanned for one reason or another. If no symptoms are present, it’s known as diverticulitis. However, it’s called diverticular disease if there are symptoms like stomach pain. Usually, those at risk of the disease are people who lack fiber in their respective diets.
Beyond diarrhea, constipation, and tummy pain, diverticular disease can also cause dark stools. Those who experience symptoms are generally advised to seek medical attention immediately, especially for severe bleeding pain. Usually, colonoscopy and CT scans are used to determine whether or not a person has diverticular disease or diverticulitis. The earlier it’s caught, the easier it’ll be to treat. Moreover, it’s possible to treat the condition at home.
