Intussusception
Intussusception is a dangerous condition where a part of the intestine slides into the organ’s adjacent part. This shortening action can block fluids and food from properly passing through. Moreover, it can cut the blood supply to the affected part off, leading to tears or perforation, infections, and eventual death of the bowel tissue if left unchecked. It’s also common for children’s intestinal obstruction, and the cause is unknown in many cases. Although intussusception is relatively rare for adults, in the majority of cases, it’s often because of underlying health conditions like a tumor, and it can lead to black stools.
For children, the sign of the condition may be loud crying due to abdominal pain. Infants who experience this tend to curl up in fetal positions whenever they cry. Other frequent indicators of intussusception may include stool containing mucus and blood, vomiting, abdomen lump, weakness and fatigue, and diarrhea. The symptoms in children are generally the same for adults, except that abdominal pain can come and go. Vomiting and nausea are also not uncommon.
