Creatine supplements may also help boost cognitive abilities and mental performance. According to a 2003 study, oral supplementation of creatine positively impacted brain function, similar to what was seen in the heart and muscles. For six weeks, the participants took 5 grams of creatine supplements, and 45 of them performed well in intelligence tests and working memory, despite working under pressure, compared to the placebo group.
The result indicated that high levels of creatine in the brain correlate to better brain function. Furthermore, the supplements helped reduce mental exhaustion, even when working under pressure and doing calculation tasks. Similarly, research published in 2007 concluded that creatine supplements enhanced the cognitive abilities of elderlies.
Participants were split into two groups and did a series of memory-related and number tests. One group took creatine supplements (5g) four times a day for a week while performing the tasks. The other group took the placebo. According to the findings, those who incorporated supplementation while carrying out the tests did well compared to those who didn’t.
